Highlights from the March 24 meeting:

  1. Tennessee Middle School Student Nellie Gould led the Pledge of Allegiance.

  2. The board approved the following:

    1. Financial Reports (Revenues & Expenditures) for School Board approval and listings
            of bills paid in January for General Purpose, Federal Projects, School Nutrition, and

            School Capital Projects Funds. February reports for all funds will be reported at the

            next meeting.

      2. General Purpose School Fund - Budget Journal #6 for January 2025.
      3.  Federal Projects Fund - Budget Journal #6 for January 2025.

      4.  Capital Projects Fund - Budget Journals #3 and #4 for January 2025.

  3. The board approved a listing of surplus and obsolete items.

Dr. Luke Douthat, principal of Tennessee Middle School, introduced Student Council Association (SCA) representatives Nellie Gould, SCA president, and Kenzie Porter, SCA vice president. The student leaders gave a brief presentation highlighting the work of the SCA and their commitment to creating a respectful, inclusive, and positive school environment. They shared an overview of the five SCA committees—Spirit, Welcome and Support, Environmental, Community Service, and Event Planning/Fundraising—and outlined spring projects such as a pep rally skit, testing affirmations, campus clean-up, teacher treat bags, and grade-level celebrations. The presentation emphasized student leadership and their active role in shaping school culture.

  • The board approved the 2025 summer school proposals.

  • The board approved the agreement with Community Tectonics Architects.

  • The board approved the science textbook adoption recommendations.

  • The board approved the agreement with West, Welch, and Reed (Knoxville, TN) for Engineering Services for HVAC Replacement for twelve classrooms at Anderson Elementary School per proposal received on March 5, 2025, in the amount of $33,725.

  • The board approved the agreement with Building Management Consultants (Chattanooga, Tennessee) for Roof Design, Specification, and Project Monitoring at Tennessee High School per proposal dated March 3, 2025, in the amount of $20,000.

  • The board approved the agreement with Building Management Consultants (Chattanooga, TN) for Roof Design, Specification, and Project Monitoring at Anderson Elementary School per proposal dated November 25, 2024, in the amount of $44,250.

  • The board approved the Resolution Affirming Participation in Section Four of the Education Freedom Act of 2025 for teachers to receive one-time bonus.

  • The Report from the Director of Schools was given by Dr. Annette Tudor.

  • Board members heard comments from City Council Liaison Rae Akard.

  • The Bristol Tennessee Board of Education provided individual comments.
